On January 1st and July 1st remember to always check local rules for each county, the California Code of Civil Procedure, and California Rules of Court. That's when the rules change.
Use investigators for service of process. They are typically cheaper, and will go the extra mile to make sure docs are filed properly, and defendants are located and served. The National Association of Professional Process Servers website is a great place for finding one.
Be sure to always Shepardize your cases.
Double check when calendaring to make sure if the deadline is "court days" or "calendar days." Watch for holidays because those days do not get counted as a "court day".
You must have a written agreement with opposing counsel for service via email to be valid. An email message qualifies as a "written agreement."
